The microelectronics industry propels the Quebec economy of today and tomorrow in a multitude of sectors of activity. Intelligent electronic systems are found in a host of common products, such as cell phones, cars, televisions, airplanes, in addition to powering today’s technologies. Any technological innovation, whether artificial intelligence, quantum technology or any connected and intelligent products, has electronic systems as a prerequisite.
In Quebec, this industry represents more than 45,000 jobs and $5.5 billion in economic spinoffs per year. There are more than 730 companies spread across Quebec, 86% of which export abroad, and half of the jobs in the sector are concentrated in Montérégie and Estrie. It is in collaboration with ISEQ – Quebec’s Electronics Systems Industry Cluster of Excellence that we are working together to promote the industry both in Quebec and internationally.
Bromont’s microelectronics expertise has been present in the region for more than 50 years thanks to renowned leaders such as IBM and Teledyne MEMS.
The designation of Bromont as an innovation zone is of crucial importance for Quebec’s electronic systems industry since it confirms the unique and collaborative model inspired by the activities of the largest microelectronics research center in Canada, the Center of Collaboration MiQro Innovation (C2MI), founded more than 12 years ago.
The strategic positioning of the Bromont digital technology innovation zone stands out in several ways.
Bromont is strategically positioned in the Northeast Corridor with the United States, an important corridor in the global supply chain relocation effort.
Canada ranks first among G7 countries for the smooth flow of goods across borders (free trade agreements with several countries).
A mature ecosystem around which large local and international companies and smaller ones, recognized for their ability to innovate, revolve.
The largest electronic systems research and development center in Canada, the MiQro Innovation Collaboration Center (C2MI).
Presence of the largest concentration of clean rooms in Canada (275,000 ft2 serving more than 400 companies).
9 active research chairs allowing the training of more than 100 engineers and scientists per year.
Access to training programs adapted to the needs of the industry at all levels (academics, technicians and professionals).
Access to a regional airport with customs service. Canadian and American travelers can also use the CANPASS service.
A biophilic real estate area
“shovel ready”
The Bromont area offers large, serviced land, “shovel ready” today, requiring no decontamination, business relocation or deconstruction. The innovation zone will be the first biophilic industrial park in North America.
